The 156 wagon is better than the Saloon, but I'm not sure the 159 wagon is better, it loses more than it gains in styling I think.

Its not cut and dried like some cars, I have a new E class and the saloon is awful, all the journalists agree that its the Coupe or Estate only unless you are blind.

 

I've owned both...

When I had a ti saloon I couldn't stop looking at the SW, and now I own a ti SW, I can't stop looking at saloons lol!

They're both great looking cars, and I guess if your needs are more orientated towards needing the extra capacity of an estate, the 159 ti SW has to be one of, if not THE best looking estates on the road!

 

SW in TI form saw a black one near me almost made me wish I'd paid the extra 2000 odd grand over the asking on mine.

 

Have to say there are many cars out there where I would agree that the estate version is prettier (Saab 9.3, Audi A6, BMW 3 series), but sadly not the 159.

It looks like a DIY job to me, and totally ruins the great looks that they achieved in the saloon...

 

159 LE Saloon. Not contest.

 

159 looks great as a hatchback or Breara , it's a bit square at the rear .

159SW in Ti spec or lusso with 18's like mine..... would only buy Saloon inTi spec

 

Depends on finish and options. A black 159 SW on 19" alloys and darkened 'security glass' look absolutely fantastic.

 

Have to agree on the Saab.... Estate is awful in my opinion... 95 was ok.

 

Yes, thats one of the worst estate vs saloon jobs.

Another is the Skoda Superb, inoffensive Wagon, awful Saloon with a rear end from A 1996 Megane saloon!

 

I'd have the SW over a saloon anyday! Looks much better, thats my next car if sprogs come along!

Its a bit like asking who's fitter - Penelope Cruz or Scarlet Johannson? You can't really go wrong with either, and you could certainly do a lot worse.

 

Glad its not just me who thought the Superb looked like a Megane from the back....

 

I maintain that Skoda's are as good a car as the equivalent VW or Audi.

Unlike with Seat, they dont cheapen the quality to differentiate it, they deliberately make them uglier.

VW - Core product

Compare to:

Audi - Harder ride, more plastic chrome, more soundproofing
Seat - Harder plastics, less soundproofing
Skoda - Uglier
Bentley - Thicker carpets, even more plastic chrome and wood, bigger engine, softer leather (compared to Phaeton)
Bugatti - No relation other than electrical systems.

 

Had a Ti saloon until yesterday and now have a SW Ti. Both look amazing in this spec! Getting silver roof rails put on the SW shortly. I think that really finishes the car. Stunning!

 

They both look good, but I went for a saloon it is more honest. Why is the estate being called a sport wagon? is the saloon a sports saloon?

 

The sportwagon is more a cross between an estate and a hatchback

 

I had this choice recently. I like them both equally. But I went for a saloon because the SW commands a hefty premium over the saloon in the used market. I decided to save some money and roof box the saloon when needed.

That being said... The 17 inch alloys look too small on the SW. So on that basis the Saloon, just because it looks good with all wheel sizes & in my opinion you need at least 18s on the SW.

 

I prefer the SW, but they're not common enough used :'(
both look good, but I've found the boot on my 156 saloon near useless so thats my only dislike of the saloon!

There really isn't an answer to this question, apart from the one you've given yourself. It's all down to personal taste.
