Which battery?

You can have as big a battery as you want ….as long as I physically fits of course! Cant harm your car by having a big battery. When I was a young oik some of us ran two or even three batteries in series to power stupid audio systems....never affected anything! Bigger the better as far as 159 batteries!!

Good to hear, pain searching for the right size. Had to do a manual search as most sites I looked at had the incorrect battery diameters. The one that's fitted plays havoc with my ocd as it has a good inch gap each side.

I've just ordered the Exide via eBay for £80 delivered.

I fitted a ford galaxy diesel battery to mine,they do 2 types I went for the updated one. Fits the tray lovely filling the gap perfect. Ideal for the cranking power on these cold mornings.

Decided to get the Exide,£80 delivered. fitted this afternoon in 10mins. Great fit

My Exide turned up today. Fills the tray nicely. Now I'll see if it makes any difference to the starting or performance of the car.

I've ordered one today to replace the battery the seller who sold me the car had 'knocking around'

Seems to crank over an awful lot before starting (that's with correct plugs and deswirled and cleaned manifold).

So far only started it from cold twice but yes it seems to start much better. Like yours mine (1.9JTDm) seemed to crank over a long time and sometimes didn't start cleanly or cut out.

Recently had to get warranty replacement for 1.9 JTDM, after the 5-year battery developed dud cell after 3 years. Size is 027 Platinum Prestige Plus. Very happy with it, until fault developed, which I regard as just one of those things. New one gives lively cranking and quick start on coldest days we’ve had this winter.

242L x 175W x 190H good fit for width and height, and leaves 50mm or so unused lengthwise.

I could’ve sworn when I was after a new battery, I checked if Varta or Bosch did a 190mm tall battery, obviously I must have panic bought the F18 as Varta do an F19 (as mentioned above) which is the right size. I got an F18 same as my old one that I’ve had a couple of cms of packing Under the strap. Same spec otherwise, but yeah 175mm is too short to clamp up.

The packing is essential. The reason for the strap is that in a crash test the bottom lug breaks off. With the right battery (190mm High) the strap is a very substantial energy absorber. I don't like packing but the RAC seems to think it can stock its vans with limited versions and use packing to bridge the gaps. I got them to reattend a friends car with the right height battery.

Another vote for the EA900 - mine's correct dims, no gaps, and packs 90Ah and 720CCA - starts on the first crank now - although it was unseasonably warm this morning - only gripe is the jacket thing around the battery is too small for the new one.

Replacing a Halfords 65ah one of unknown age.
