Hi, I am having trouble finding the ECU in my 98 alfa spider 2.0 TS.

My VIN number is ZAR91600006043553 apparently there are some changes to ECU

before and after some VIN numbers. I think it is a phase1 spider,

made 24th February 1998 ?

like it has no chrome around the grill, one owner since new ?

I am trying to find out if my ECU is a Bosch Motronic M2.10.3 control system

or a Bosch Motronic M2.10.4 control system for 2.0 T.Spark 16v engine?

without pulling the inside out I have found a 3 pin socket down by bottom of the glove box,

but can't find the ECU ? could it be the rear cubby next to the battery.

An online manual explains what to do when I find it, :) but nothing about where it is hidden !

cheers :)

have you tried looking under carpet in passenger`s footwell area? 90% sure it is either there or behind the glove box compartment.

+1 definitely under carpet passenger side behind glovebox. Alternatively if you have a cable and dnecudiag software you could plug in and find out which ecu is fitted cos I don't think it tells you on the ecu case. Your car is most likely a so called phase 1.5 cos of some small changes from original phase1. Like the ECU .

It will be a M2.10. 4 and is in the passenger footwell, on the left hand side.

Edit: wow that part took a long time to appear! !

Yours is a really late Ph1. Does anyone know the build date is the first ph2's?

A quick question to all, if l remove the connector plug from the ECU to look inside at the chip number etc, will the car still work when I replug the connector all back up, or does it need some special procedure ?

like, hop on leg whilst tapping my head with a hammer ? LOL
