Whats peoples thoughts on front wheel alignments? My last set of tyres wore on the insides(nout left) , but the rear did not have much more than 2 mms on them when I changed all 4 . The car seems well balanced, drives as striaght as a die, no wheel wobble or vibrations thu steering wheel. Would you bother with taking in for wheel alignment? I am worried as you hear could be made worse if not done correctly & also don't want someone to damage my now perfect alloys.

Wheel alignment won't damage your alloys.
The rear setting is 3mm toe-in, but I have found 2-3mm appears ok. I like the easier to achieve oversteer that 2mm allows.

You will need to have the suspension checked for wear before an alignment. Fast fit places which are only after you money tend not to do this. A decent mechanic and customer centred business will have a look for suspension wear first. The factory settings are wrong. Most people on here suggest setting front to parallel, but I normally go for 2 to 3mm toe-in. This depends on version and driving style. I have yet to set a 147 or 156 and produce poor tyre wear or handling characteristics from these settings. It will make the front a bit more responsive though, and in some cases it takes the front sensitivity right to the point of being too much at high speeds.

There is a supported theory that because these cars have normally about 1 degree of negative camber, it is best to corner them spiritedly. This allows the body angle to tilt the outer wheels to upright or perpendicular whilst cornering. It will wear tyres faster, but they will wear more evenly.

Awful lot of wheel alignment posts of late. Alfa's grip the road, which we like, inside edge gets most stick,(unless you go sideways:D) The ability to have ferocious, tenacious, cornering power we like, net result, tyre wear, especially the inside edges. Simple Innit'? Maybe I'm all at sea though, without me' boat?
