Mine was a Thomson (RCA in the US) Lyra

Audio Ideas Guide Hi-Fi and Home Theater Equipment Reviews: RCA Lyra Portable MP3 Player

Bought at Darty and used with my collection of Compact Flash
for my Canon Digital Ixus and Psion 5.
So no moving hard drive parts and ran for hours on a couple of AA batteries.

(The problem being I'd over-write music with photos and end
up with nothing to listen to on the flight home.)

Came with MusicMatch iirc and a neat set of over-the-ears 'phones.

Bloody thing used to encrypt the MP3s when copying them onto the cards
to stop you "sharing" music.

Creative Nomad Jukebox

I still have it, in it's box with all the manuals and everything plus a leather 'gimp suit' case.

Was a cracking little player but battery life was appalling, couple of hours if your lucky.

A cheapo Matsui one until I managed to break the approx 5mmx25mm screen on it (anything with a touch screen wouldn't last me 5 minutes).

I now have a Philips GoGear one.
