Hi there!
I am a newbie,to the forum and to Alfas!So be gentle with me!!
Does any one know what voltage should be present at the overboost or vnt solenoid on a 02 2.4 jtd 156?I have looked through the previous posts and,while very informative,I could find no mention of the actual voltage presented to the solenoid.
I am asking because my Alfa is overboosting,probably the turbo vanes stuck,but the actuator does not move,unless I disconnect the vac pipe from the vnt and connect it directly to the actuator.Is it possible for the actuator to move and the turbo vanes to still be stuck?
I'm guessing the solenoid is kaput,but it's only getting 3.5 volts,even tho it says 12v on the side of it!:confused:
On the bright side,I've still got the egr and inlet manifold to clean:cry:
Sorry if this has been covered already,but any help is greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,in advance!

The fault codes that came up;
p0404,egr valve
p1612,?
p0101,afm,now been replaced,(with a genuine bosch)
p0380,?
p0236,overboost valve circuit and finally
p0638,?
The vacuum pipes seem ok,one had perished slightly,but no change when it was changed.the system seems to be holding vacuum.....
Can't reset codes or read them now as the reader was borrowed!

bit of an update,the egr valve is finished!I usually take things apart and rebuild,whenever poss,but this is in bits,gonna bite the bullet and get a new one,along with the boost valve and thermostat(takes ages to warm up,and barely registers on the temp guage).
found quite a lot of oily muck in the inlet,but nothing to be alarmed about and the map sensor seems ok
any ideas on what the other fault codes are?the reader was an ethos reader,and seemed vague with its descriptions on some faults.ie;
p0380 plate heating relay?glow plug relay,perhaps?light flashes after starting,but it's had new glow plugs and all check out ok.

right,changed the afm for a new bosch,the egr for a used,but known working one and all the codes remain,even after fiatecuscan cleared them!they return immediately.....help!!!!!
the afm is showing 0.00volts,just occasionally flicking to 0.05v.there is no signal from egr,overboost solenoid,ac compressor relay and the glow plug circuit signal is too high??
I'm thinking maybe the wiring loom is suspect,Is there a connection from the engine wiring loom to the actual ecu,at the bulkhead,maybe?
a big thank you for all the help so far,but I think 'bella' is trying to get one over us!

maybe I should have checked the simple things first,found a blown fuse:rolleyes:,no 2 on the aux fuse board(just above main fuse holder)and almost impossible to reach unless you can dislocate your wrists,in at least two places!Now I have no warning lights and lots of revs!still need to check the glow plug relay,but she starts fine without!
no aircon as yet,but hey,hey.....
Just like to say thank you for the advice,Davealfa11 and Dickymint156,it is much appreciated!:thumbs:

According to my manual,as well,you are quite correct,Dave alfa11,hence my not checking that fuse before!but I followed the wiring diagram on eLearn,once I had worked out the colour code,grey with a red tracer(HR),it gets it's feed from the injection relay(j10 on eLearn) then goes to the afm,egr,vnt solenoid,butterfly casing solenoid,on the rear of the engine(vac unit that also gives a vacuum to the vnt solenoid) and the glow plug relay.
Thought it may be useful info.
Thanks again,I got a working Alfa!!:) Just need an MOT now . . . .
