Thats the flux capacitor, more commonly known as a flexi.

 

I had one replace on my JTS, any good exhaust fitter ban cut the old one out and weld a new one in for you i paid about £40 cash in hand...

 

I got quoted £80 by the folks sharing Red Dots unit.

Was this cost just to supply a new bit or to supply and fit the new bit? Thanks

supply and fit, there are many shapes and size flex pipes availabel and even at £80 to do the JTS was very cheap as after market exhausts are very expensive at the moment and at the time bosal wernt doing that section...

 

I replaced mine also on the JTS. Bought the full section for about £50 and fitted myself.

 

i am just uploading some photos of it to photobucket so it should be easier to tell what it is as soon as they are done ill post them here

Hi there yes is your flexi pipe, only thing is someone will correct me if im wrong but the flexi is part of your cat, that said you should be able to get someone to weld a new flexi part as a very much cheaper option. GOOD LUCK

 

would a 156 part fit it by any chance? just looking through ebay at the moment and i saw 1 for a 156

Did look on ebay dont know the year of your car for a new whole part cat flexi around the £250 plus fitting feel your pain on that one ...........

looks like its a little cheaper for your year and being a 16 around £215,you can phone the suppliers with reg details to be on safe side dont forget cost of fitting though

 

I hate to bring the bad news to you, but the same went on mine and cost 500 quid to repair. It is part of the cats which need to be replaced because they are obviously part of the flexi. I was thinking something around 50 quid to have a new one welded on, but apparantly (and i took it to a few places) you wouldnt be able to. You may be able to find one from an alfa breakers, but in the end i couldnt find one so gave up and bought a new one from alfa. (which was also discounted at that price!!!).

Short term fix though, there is a piece of aluminium bar i dont know what it does because it just ends suddenly above the flexi, but if you bend that to push the 1 section of the exhaust tighter against the flexi, it will stop the gas escaping.

I dont know if that made sense^.

 

sorry only just read this, i have also found it cant be cut and welded because there is a thin piece of 'wavey' metal inside the pipe which just burns away when you heat it up so wouldnt be worth the labour charge, thanks for the short term fix tip aswell i might try that to get it through the mot which is on the 25th august sso i have got a few weeks to find 1

Also i think the 105bhp has differant cats to a 120bhp.

 

thanks for your help here, i have found the part i need is the cf3 downpipe and a 156 part will fit it aswell so i just need to find 1 now hopefully a used 1 as this should be cheaper. how would i find out what bhp it is for definate? i think its the 120bhp but if the are different i would need to find out?

 

autolusso tele01525 221921 have cf3 cat flexi second hand £150 and would put your mind at rest to what type you need...........

 

stick your reg number in the eurocarparts website, they give you an idea...

It is possible to weld a new flexi just need to find someone to do it...
