hi all, well, what more can i say other than the title?

my friends parents have given me their old E30 320 cabriolet, as it has been sat on the drive for the last 2 years, and they wont get around to doing anything with it. i have had a look around it, and i know the following:

E30 320i auto
1989 (i think) but is on private plate.
grey leather interior, in ok condition
BMW hard top, in grey. the fabric seems to be coming away at the rear quarters - easy fix?
15" BBS (?) alloys, with all centre caps present, and the same spare, in ok condition, might look better when clean.
nearly 120K miles
no aircon
chrome bumpers (not sure of the significance of this?)
manual roof i think

bad bits:

rear arches beginning to rust
dent and scratch down to primer on boot lid (managed to drop hardtop on it at some point i think)
some rust at point where front sills meet front wheel arches
water in the passenger side of boot (possibly due to badly fitting gromet where aerial used to be)
glove box well and truly broken
tyres could do with replacing
exhaust looks past its best
front fog and valance off, but present.
some random alarm immobiliser fitted

good bits:

factory hard top
hood in good order as far as i know, with a recent rear screen
interior seems to be in good condition
wheels seem ok
majority of bodywork looks ok, but need to do some digging
it was free :D
complete original tool kit
complete original first aid kit

so, what do we think??

i will update this thread as i go, but it may be some time bfore the work actually starts, due to a potential change in circumstances.

cheers,

Lee

Nice one mate, you can't beat free. As they say back home "if there's owt for nowt, give me a shout"

I do like E30s but a cab wouldn't be my first choice. Fix it up & sell it. Old E30s can be worth a fair old bit of cash now, have a look here for some nicer examples:

E30s are nice cars. My wife had an E30 Touring before her current E46 Touring. The E30 was a fantastic car, the E46 has been a bag of sh*te. E30s have a great design, the front in particular looks great, they drive well, the 318 Touring was much much more fun than the equivalent E46. Also got a lot of admiring glances.

We are just about to take delivery of a new Ford Focus estate to replace the E46, we seriously considered going backwards to another E30, it was only the lack of aircon that put us off. Old Colonel is a good site for classic Beemers (not sure if his cars are any good though!).

Cheers,

Nigel

that is the bargain of the year lee, they are worth over 1k easy with gd service and so on.
before i got my alfas i had a e30 325 for 5 years, never gave any problems( with 225000 on the engine) and was great on track and rd , but i wouldnt go for convertibles in any car really. they do rust badly i am affraid around the jack point, arches and floor panel and around the bactery,. once this places are done it will last a few long years again. plus they are quite simple to fix if something goes wrong, they not to complicated. u gd prices for parts and mods too ( but not in a auto lol). if u need anything to do about the e30 give me a buzz,u also will find loads off info on the e30forum. while u fixing it up,swap the box for manual and enjoy the rwd fun
