Hey guys,

I have just had a 2003 selespeed come in with a sele prob.

I hooked it up to FES because the selespeed failure light was on hoping it would give me a clue but its showing no errors.

I then re-calibrated, it was doing the business for 2-3 mins then flashed up "error 1st and 2nd gear"? 1st time i've ever seen that message.

When you put the key on MAR N flashes and the car doesnt even turn over when given a full twist but if i keep pushing the lever over to neutral it will turn over for a split second.

I had it started by fluke left i run for 10 minutes turned it off and was back to square one.

I've checked all the obvious changed the relay toped up with fluid as there was none in there.

I was just about to quit when I reached down to get a socket when I noticed a puddle of oil under the passenger side wing looked up and saw that one of the pipes had evidence of a leak, I changed the pipe but never had enough fluid to fill the system to the correct level did try and get the system going but still no joy.

Is it possible that the leeky pipe is causing a loss of pressure thats not allowing it to select a gear.

Thanks for your time and any suggestions would be really appriciated.

Lack of sele fluid can upset the actuator and put it out of sync but to be honest im no expert try Kev on 01444 257707 the Alfa specialist in Brighton and mid Sussex area he knows his stuff and is brilliant and cheap or mark at mid sussex alfa romeo.

the system works at 45bar to 55 bar. if it works less & more than those paramenter then the accumultor is defective OR the inlet filter is clogged with swarf [ from the pump breaking down ]

to me it sound like one of the 3 sensors need replacing, most likely the clutch position sensor.

thanks for your reply's,

Its about 50 bar and im going to change the sensors tomorrow as i have a few spare actuators, I ran out of light and patients yesterday lol.

I really cant see it being the actuator itself but im not going to rule it out im going to replace the sensors 1 by 1 and recalab now the new hose is on if i still dont have any joy im going to have to change the actuator as the pump is priming but for some reason im not 100% happy with the pump for the simple reason that when asked to prime via FES it wasnt but I can often hear it prime when im under the bonnet, Oh and another thing I forgot to mention is that for some reason when I put the key on MAR the fan come on straight and doesnt go off but it wasnt like that at the beginning?

If I dont get it sorted by tomorrow i will take it upto kev as mentioned above, I've used him a few time's when im out of my depth and his never let me down once.

Thanks for or time.

Had another quick look this morning for an hour and a half still cant get it to select a gear even if i run a live to the pump, that usually works for me.

Im going to spend all day onit tomorrow im not totally convinced its the actuator but im certainly not ruling it out, if worst comes to worse i will change it but im leaning towards it being something electrical?

Any more idea's?
