Another reason why being in the EU is a mistake.

The changes are a result of a 'European harmonising directive' (in other words our country being governed from overseas). Every one of those changes seems to stem from lobbying from the motor manufacturing industry, and seeing there isn't any of that left in the UK (and by that I mean at decision making level rather than overseas manufacturing plant) you can be pretty sure nobody on this island asked for those changes.

If you were on mainland Europe you wouldn't have an MOT every year.

But if you will fail on any of the new items (as spec'd in the MOT manual, not the slightly inaccurate wording on that link) then you should have had the car fixed already.

Any prat who doesn't know what is the high beam light and what it is for shouldn't be on the road - but is the MOT man now to become a driver-instructor? All very well this sort of crap from Brussels which we follow like naughty puppies, but do we need it? Wait until they want all vehicles off the road which don't have a battery of warning lights and gizmos few understand. LEAVE THE E.U. AND LET US RUN OUR OWN SHOW.:vomit::vomit::vomit:

until now the High Beam warning light hasn't been covered by the MOT, so there may be people driving round with the high beam on completely unaware because their warning light isn't working.

Warning lights on the dash often show a fault exists.Plenty of us have Alfas with the airbag warning light on.If you are driving with passengers and in the event of a collision one is injured which may have been minimised if the airbags had been deployed get a good lawyer. The engine management light is another issue eventually the car could fail if the light is on because a sensor is not working correctly which may affect the exhaust emissions which is ******** to the overall picture of global warming.
