Just a really silly question....do the front washers and the rear screen washers run off the same water pump?

No there's a seperate water pump for front and rear washers, otherwise they'd both spray at the same time

On my 147 the pumps are side by side(I think) on the water bottle.

On the 147: yes. Reversing polarity/direction of rotation on the pump motor determines where the water goes, front or rear.

Don't know if it's the same on a 156....

There are two pumps on mine, one for the front and rear screens, the other for headlight washers. The screen pump has two outlets and pumps water to the front or rear screen depending on the direction the pump spins.

Andy has it right. One does front and rear screen. Its dirrected to the front or rear screen. The second pump does the washers only as they only work every third wash i think.
