Hi all,

Very sick Alfa GT. Can anyone share their knowledge?

Jumped in my 56 plate 1.9 JTDm after work, only to find the battery completely flat. Strange, I thought. Managed to jump-start it, and so I set off. But during the ten-mile journey home, it kept cutting out quite juddery and violently - BANG - every ten seconds-or-so. The speedo would drop down to zero and then shoot back up again, the coil/heater plug light would flash and the cruise control light would come on and the warning beep kept sounding. Curiously, though, it did not do it above 60mph. A local garage said they could "plug it in" if I came back before five. So I went home, and it stopped doing the judder. Typical. But when I came to take it down to the garage, the battery was completely dead again (despite running for about 45 minutes). All the dash lights flickered and that was it. Dead...

Yes. You're battery is totally dead. You'll find a new one will probably fix all your issues.

Sounds like a dead battery but before buying one check the battery terminals for tightness and the condition of both the body and engine earth cables.

If the alternator is on its way out you usually have the battery warning up on the dash. That's not to say it's working perfectly however...
