Hello,
I've been told that if I have a diesel noise at startup that my variator is bad. But, my '01 156 1.8ts-sw runs like a top and I got 37mpg(UK) on my last tank (mostly my wife driving, admittedly:confused:). I do need to do the cambelt in a few months. Do I just replace the variator? Can its fitness be visually ascertained when the belt is off? The noise is subtle, but there. I naturally don't want to fix anything that isn't broken, but I especially don't want to mess with a system which is working so well!
