Was using an ipod in disk mode to play tunes in the car, but now my ipod has packed up and am not planning on getting a new one. I have a spare 20GB 2.5" External USB drive and was hoping to chuck music on that and play my tune in the car. However I copied the music onto it and plugges it in the car but only get "No media found" message.

Is there a particular procedure I need to follow to get this drive to work and should I give up?

All seems very hit and miss.

I have trouble with it building a library for more than 4Gb of mp3 files.
Although it has recognized 4, 8 and some 16Gb USB flash drives and
a 60Gb hard drive it cannot "see" more than about 1000 files.

It could most likely be that there isnt enough power coming from the USB socket to power the drive. Its a common issue on laptops and desktops, and why most external drives come with an extra power lead.

Just listen to the drive when you plug it in, if it sounds like its stuttering then theres prob not enough power to drive it.
