Hi all,

Had a bit of bad luck recently. Story began in December when I purchased a lovely well maintained 00 gtv v6 with a full alfa maindealer and specialist service history. car has been lowered with upgraded shocks and power bushed rear suspension also I fitted strut brace up front and new engine mount. It has a raggazon rear pipe and makes a lovely sound when encouraged. Looking back through the service history it has had timing belt new radiator and other stuff done. Engine bay is clean and well maintained. I was delighted with it, millage wasnt bad either at 93,000. All in all it was a positive buy. it was my second alfa and I love them. But two weeks ago some nut in a truck clipped me on a round a bout and did 3000 worth of damage and wouldnt stop either so had to follow him furiously for 20 miles before I got the gards to pull him over. He is trying to claim its my fault but I have a witness who was kind enough - unknown to me at the time - to follow us and pull in and give a statement to the gards. Long story short its his fault so had the car assessed and have sent the transport company the details. Problem is the book value of the car is only 2000 so the insurance company might not pay any more than that and rite it off so I have been told to my horror. Thing is I cant afford the 3000 or even 2000 to fix it up. Killer is its purely cosmetic involving only the front bumper and all the parts in and around that but jesus do they add up. real sickner had it NCT.d 5 days prior to the accident and it passed first go. Just wondering if the insurance company rites it off would it be worth my while breaking it for parts? are there enough v6's in Ireland to get the interest? or even 2.0l.

Hopefully I can , waiting for the insurance company to cantact me. As u know main dealer parts are expensive grandons in cork are looking for 750 for new bumper and 350 for mirror. Which is just theft. I can source one for 1/4 of that and do it myself.

Dig in your heels and the insurance company may offer you a cash settlement to repair the car yourself. I had a similar experience in the 90's. Good luck and welcome to AO, by the way.

Sorted guy's insurance paid up ,,she is lovingly restored for a hefty 3000,,,for that money I could have done the cosmetic work and poured a 2000 into the engine and suspension but anyway bits could still be hanging so I should be more grateful .:))))))
