Hay, you will need all the files from the archive especially the Script.lua as that has the instructions for the uConnect.

When you say all the files from the archive, you mean everything from the two zipfiles, right? That is what I did originally - the 'magic' one just had the swdl.iso file and the 'backup' one had those three subfolders plus the script.lua file. I put them all in the root folder of the USB and I got the error message.

The only difference from your instructions are:
1) I still had the 'backup' folder as well, so I'll delete that as I've already copied the files from it
2) I don't have a 'fs' folder. Where is that supposed to come from? Is it meant to be in one of the archives?

So when we get problems like this the first thing a suggest is to try a fresh format and or a different USB stick ( surprising how fussy the uConnect is)

Format Fat32 or on macOS MS-DOS and then extract the contents of the magic zip and the pack you want to use (backup.zip as the first one) to the stick.

Run on the car

Unsuppoeted Files is normally due to USB, Format or extraction problem

So you were absolutely right about the USB. Tried it with a different one and it read it immediately.

Now I have a new issue - got this message:
'Error: System market mismatch, stick contains EU but target is RW'

For backup, I'm currently using the regular '2. BACKUP.zip' file. Should I actually be using the '2. BACKUP -NA or ROW to EU Convert.zip' file instead? Or do I perhaps need both?

Now that is more like the error I was expecting but was hopeful we would not get.

Have u updated your uConnect with the v17.07.55 firmware yourself or was it already that version?

The only RW (ROW) firmware I have is the v15. You could try using that, but I suspect it will say that your system firmware is newer than the update - download the ROW Magic file and use the swdl.iso in that one to see if that will work.

All is not lost if you don't have the newer firmware, or the older one does not work....i have an idea on how to modify a update to make it work.

OK, I'll give that a go, thanks.

No, I haven't updated my uConnect, it already had the v17.07.55 firmware.

Tried that, and now the error du jour is:
ERROR: Model Year Not set in ISO

Sorry to be such a pain! Any ideas on a fix from here?
OK, here is another file for you to try:

PLEASE make sure to say NO to the update, if it works as i currently don't have any recovery firmware for your uConnect.
I will have a look to see if i can find the v17.07.55 ROW firmware you have, now i know about it.

I took your new zipfile, exported it, and used the 'swdl.iso' file from that instead of the one I previously had. Unfortunately we have another fail - 'authentication error'.

Now that is more like the error I was expecting lol. I am working on tracking down the v17 firmware your uConnect is running.... once I have that we should he good to go.

Hi, I bought another FCA car and in need for some clarification. It's Grand Cherokee MY2014 with 8.4" unit and 14.05.3 firmware. It is below 16.10.xx, but above 14.05.03 as in your Mega disc. So, my question is whether this is a typo (and you meant 14.05.3 and not 14.05.03) or I need to downgrade the firmware. Cheers

I've collected the files. It's about my Grand Cherokee with 14.05.3. So, I made an USB with iso file from "Magic - 8.4 pre UPD (14.05.03)" and the maps. Now I have a dilemma. I've had a Giulietta and the update process was like you insert the USB stick, it does the job with copying and, when done, it offers update after 30 minutes to which you should respond with "NO". With Grand Cherokee it offers the update right away. What should I do?

Thanks for your efforts!

Three questions:

1. When you say "copy content to the root", do you mean only the files, or the folder with the extracted files? Hope you understand the question. So, am I supposed to have two folders with respectively the "magic files" and the "backup files", or simply the extracted files all together in the root?

2. Do I use the ROW magic file in the first stage, when I have an Alfa from outside Europe (Middle East)?

3. Can I add a European map in stage 2 or can I only update, by adding the ROW map? I.e. can I add any number of maps?

Thanks again!

This is a cross post form the uConnect 6.5 firmware update topic.

Disclaimer: I can not be held responsible for any damages to your uConnect, Car or your hair falling out from running this modification.
That being said, if you do have a problem please contact me and I will see if I can help you fix it.

For all those people still on v17.07.55 or older uConnect 6.5 firmware I offer you a “jailbreak”, you can now update your maps to the latest versions. I have to warn you though, the process can take a lot of time!

For those of you who have updated your uConnect to v17.35.41 or v18, I am still working on how to update those, FCA / Alfa changed the locks with that update!

For a Full EU update, if you follow my instructions fully, it will take approx. 4hours during which time your uConnect must remain powered on. This time can be greatly reduced by only updating the country or countries you need, or if you are feeling brave, skipping Step 1.

Files / Items needed:
uConnect 6.5 running v17 or older firmware -Now support Fiat and Jeeps too!
At least 8gb USB Drive preferably with a flashing led light so you can see file access
Files from
MEGA

Stage 1 – Backup your files

Prep:
Download:
1 Magic -Alfa pre UPD.zip -For Alfa
1 Magic -Fiat & Jeep pre UPD.zip -For Fiat / Jeep
2 Backup.zip

Process
1. Download and expand “1 Magic.zip” and “2 Backup.zip”
2. Copy the content onto the root of the USB drive
3. Start car and let uConnect boot up (wait approx 5min for full boot up)
4. Plug in and WAIT, the uConnect will not appear to be doing anything but if you are using a USB with a light you should be able to see it flashing with file activity
5. After some time, in my case it took 1h25 to complete this stage, it should popup a window about there is a update that you MUST answer NO to
6. Pull USB, and power cycle the uConnect*

After that you now have a backup of all the system and map files we are going to change on your uConnect.
KEEP THEM SAFE!
Either use a second USB for stage 2, save the backup folder to your computer or if your like me and use a 16gb USB stick you can leave it where it is.

I have now uploaded copies of the official EU Map Packs from (A) 2013, 2015 and 2017 that should function as a backup or official upgrade for anybody needing them.

Stage 2 – Modify your uConnect

Prep:
Download:
1 Magic.zip --You should already have this if you completed Stage 1

D FEU Custom 2019v1.zip --FullEU (Newest update!)

D EU Custom 2018 HNEU2018Q3.zip --Full EU
Or
D UK Custom 2018 HNUK2018Q3.zip --UK Only
D FR Custom 2018 HNFR2018Q3.zip --France Only
D DE Custom 2018 HNDE2018Q3.zip --Germany Only
D IT Custom 2018 HNIT2018Q3.zip --Italy Only
There will be other country only update packs soon
Or
A EU 2013 Original NQEU2012Q4.zip --Stock 2013 Maps, Original EU Release
A EU Update 2015 HMEU2014Q2.zip --Going back to stock with 2015 Maps
A EU Update 2017 HMEU2015Q4.zip --Newest Original Map files released 2017

Process
1. Download and expand “1 Magic.zip” and “D XX Custom 2018 HN….zip”
2. Copy the content onto the root of the USB drive
3. Start car and let uConnect boot up (wait approx. 5min for full boot up)
4. Plug in and WAIT, the uConnect will not appear to be doing anything but if you are using a USB with a light you should be able to see it flashing with file activity
5. After some time, depending on “D” file used - If country only pack approx. 15min if full EU then approx. 2h, it should popup a window about there is a update that you MUST answer NO
6. Pull USB, and power cycle the uConnect*

If all gone well you will now have a uConnect 6.5 with updated maps!

As I am sure you can understand, there are still some little bugs to work out;
UK postcodes > Only 5 digit search
UK Speedcam > Not working at all
Anything else… you tell me

The UK postcode problem frustrating but workable as it the current lack of speedcams – my uConnects speedcam database was so out of date that it was nearly useless anyway. On a plus note I now have fully working TMC in the UK and France!

There may be other little problems for the rest of the EU but I am unable to test them.

*To Power cycle:
Either remove key, lock car, wait 10min, unlock and restart)
Or use engineers menu to reset the uConnect (Press Radio, More and Browse until menu pops up, scroll down to Reset Radio, answer YES)

Hay

1. Copy the extracted files. So in the root of the USB you should have the swdl.iso (from magic file) with the script.lua and app, content, fs.... folders (from the backup or map pqck used).

2. If your uConnect is ROW then use the ROW file - check the system information in settings and it will tell you which one you have.

3. In theory you can mix and match the map files, the only problem you may have is space. The system drive is only 16Gb. If you only wanted a few EU maps it should not cause a problem, but there is not space for full ROW and EU on the system.

Hope that helps you out!
