92Y xl is required because of the load the tyre is required to carry 88 index tyres aren't designed to carry the mass of a Giulietta. Whilst it would fit, it wouldn't perform as you'd expect because it would be overloaded. 88 is 560kg, 92 is 630kg. I bought a 159 & the previous owner had put a non XL rated tyre on when it should have been and it always looked underinflated, made the steering feel heavy and wore along the edges relatively quickly

I've always replaced my tyres with the manufacturer supplied items ie Pirelli Cinturato's P7's, they seem to be a good al lround tyre IMHO

The P7 are a good tyre, but are more touring orientated.

If you want better handling, then a Performance tyre would be a good option.

Also bear in mind that tyre technology moves on. That P7 tyre fitted as new might not be the same as a new P7 now. Compounds, contruction and tread patterns etc evolve over time.

Thanks for all your input guys. I'm currently running P-Zeros but haven't been particularly impressed with performance and they're noisey as hell!

You won't go wrong with Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 2/3 or Michelin PS-3/4
