No.
If 235/40R19 is the spec'd size, that is what you fit.

Tyre costs is something you need to consider when buying a car with 19" rims...

Yes it is possible, just tell your insurance company.
Wasn't the 18" wheel option on 147 GTA's supplied with 235/35/18 but now most people use 225/40/18?
Small changes in tyre size is common on TVR's because it's difficult to find Z rated tyres for the front's of some models in the original size.

It is possible to change tyre size but Im not sure about going from 235 to 225? You may be better off looking at 235/45, 235/30 or 240/40.
That said a friend of mine changed his on a 159 for 235/35 thinking it would be fine (Just a slight missreading on the speedo) but the ASR now kicks in regularly on roundabouts etc as the new wheel rotation is obviously confusing the onboard computer into thinking the cars loosing traction. Given his experience I wouldnt risk it myself.

Because 235/35R18 are impossible to find.
Also 225/40R18 are closer to the std 225/45R17 in diameter and were the oem 18" on the GT & 156.

Not the same as changing from 235/40R19 to 225/40R19

Original question was is it possible to downsize?
Yes it is but you must tell your insurance company, again some TVR drivers have downsized fronts due to impossibly heavy steering on non PAS models.

Would I do it on a 159? No.

As I have said before I would go up to 245/40/19 due to more choice, better prices and more rubber! I would not downsize!

Here we go again......

I changed down to 225 on 18s and am STILL alive to type this, again. Im running the Khumo's, good tyres, no issues with handling or crashing into bus queue's ;)

By the way regarding insurance, has anyones insurance company actaully noted down what tyres you have fitted at present? during your application? during your renewal?

If not, how do they know that you have changed anything? or who has, or when?

I bought a 2nd hand 159, tyres were already changed on the front, down to 225. No one asked me what the tyres 'should' be. I understand all about small print and policies/warranties etc but we must apply some common sense to the advice we give each other here.

Unfortunately ignorance is no excuse Martin - If you have informed your insurance company that car is unmodified then you are confirming to them that it is to standard specification.

the size of rubber in regards to grip isnt that big a problem as overtyred in the first place IMO

HOWEVER
225s will be quite stretched on an 8 inch rim - 235 is stretched to be honest.... 245 would be a better bet but unsure if there will be any rub... I've got a q4 so would have to change all 4 at teh same time.... getting 12k out of a set of fronts (q4 has less radical alignment than fwd ad less scrabble) so dont think i'll be bothering
