Hello Ghosty, how ya doing? I can see what you mean about the £6m figure, does'nt sound like alot. But on the M42 between junctions 3a and 7 they are using sensors in the road as part of a pilot scheme called 'active traffic management' basically the sensors detect a build up of congestion; and then relay this information to the control centre, who then allow hard shoulder running. It's been working pretty well, as it helps relieve congestion during rush hours. Needless to say they've had this on the Autobahn's for years, but I think it's a great idea. Check out this link to my company http://www.highways.gov.uk/1334.aspx it'll give you some extra info, hopefully we could see more of this over the coming years, cheers Kebab.
