Does anyone know whether the older Alfa touch up kits were water-based? I have a touch up kit for 289/A Alfa Red, and I’ve used all of the clear coat. I have a leftover Nero Fuocco kit from when I had my 156, with loads of clear left. I bought that car in 2009 ish, so it might be a later formulation, maybe. So does anyone know whether I can use the clear from that over the current red colour coat on the Giulietta?

Not sure I have the definitive answer but my 2007 147 in red had water-based factory paint and the touch-up was the same: water-based matt base coat and clear laquer top coat.
Why they did that I have no idea: if a stone chip takes the laquer off, the colour coat dissolves leaving the white primer and the car looking like it's been in a wild west shoot-out! Giuliettas don't seem as bad though.

Thanks; I’ve got a few chips that need sorting out. Some are only down to the colour and some to primer, but I couldn’t tell you whether that reflects how long they’ve been there.

yes you should be fine, just make sure the base is dry before you put the clear on
