So Alfadiag has told me i have a P0340 timing sensor problem on my 156 v6. Just got the sensor out (its the one that reads off the exhaust cam on the rear bank, right?).

Is there a way it can be tested on the bench. so far iv'e tried measuring resistance across each of the 3 pins, and they're all open circuit. With it held against a lump of steel same story (it seemed a little magnetic). i don't know how it works, but surely even if it needs power to operate there would be some kind of resistance across at least 2 pins.

Can anyone enlighten me please?

tested the sensor with a decent quality multimeter and it reads several mega ohms resistance between contacts. anyone any ideas what it should be?
