Hey all, what is the average price for a Timing belt change with water pump, pulleys etc? CP Garage in Dundee are quoting me £870 which i think is way to expensive, Mcclennans in Loanhead quoted £600. Oh its a 3.0l V6 24v

Twin sparks are childs play to fit. Seriously buy the cam locks and dti gauge and you're set.
Must have done mine half a dozen times and played with the timing. Nothing special about them. Standard dohc engine.

Try CM Garage, East Kilbride which I'd recommend. Chick does a great job as an Alfa specialist.

When I got my 2002 Super (3.0l V6 24V) 4 years ago after bringing it up from Sussex, I had the works done for peace of mind at CM: full service, MOT, cambelt and water pump inc VAT came to £720. If it's just the belt, it's probably around the £300 mark. Water pump another £105.

Hope this helps?

Give me a ring when you've had enough of the 166 TS, I'd possibly be interested in a fixer-upper. Don't scrap it, you'd be lucky to get much for it these days. £25 a tonne is the rate.

Agree wih Dan - you'd be ill-advised (I was going to say "crazy, but that sounds rude ;) ) to just scrap it. One of my Godson's is looking for a facelift 166 now and I'm not frightened of doing TS belts! :)

But Dan has first dibs, of course. ;)

Don't scrap it, there's not enough around as it is. I'd definitely be interested in it too.

According to the breakdown of the quote the Aux Pulleys are extra. Is it essential to get them done at the same time? If it is why are they not part of the timing belt kit?

That my dear Tyson is another million dollar 166 question.

The aux pulleys and tensioners are a DIFFERENT system.....The crankshaft pulley drives alternator aircon pump power steering and water pump.

A long time ago a few folk said the aux belt going pear shaped took oot the timing belt causing MEGA damage.

I fur wan cannae see how it did it as timing belt area is all contained HOWEVER THEY SAID IT DID.

Also it has to be removed to do the timing belt so makes sense to do as well as spark plugs IF not doing it yersell.

THEN ..EWE HUV TAY FACTOR IN>>>>>>>thingmys nightmare

the new tensioner failed after 30 miles.
