Hello all. I'm posting this in the Mito forum as it happens to be my car but I'm sure this applies to all Alfas with stop/start technology. Some of you may know about it already but for those who don't it may be useful. When I collected my Mito the start/stop flatly refused to work. It was either saying start/stop unavailable or just refusing to work. After a few days of use my better half suggested that I should try turning off the day running lights to see if this helped. Well what can I say? I turned them off and at the next junction, hey presto, the engine stopped. It's been 100% ever since. I find this umbelievable as I now assume it won't work at night when the headlights are on and I understand that the government are eventually going to make it compulsory to use day running lights. So that could render it totally useless. Either that or it's some kind of strange problem which causes deactivation when day running lights are on. I'll be out and about in the dark tonight and see what happens then. For anybody experiencing issues with start/stop it may be worth giving this a try if you haven't already. Need to cancel my appointment with the service department now. How embarrasing!

Works flawlessly, day (DRLs always on) and night, and so it did for the last 2 month that I own my little rocket. Turning off DRLs isn't an option, they look good once replaced with white bulbs and more importantly, they are a good safety feature, and like you said, they are a must.
Take it to the garage.

Start/Stop works with my running lights on, unfortunately!

S&S has a mind of it's own - on the few times that mine's stopped working I've fond that turning the aircon on (not off) has been enough to trigger it back to life.

I questioned the salesman on a recent test drive about the Start/Stop function - he said it will only work if there is sufficient juice in the battery which would explain why it seems to work when lights/aircon are switched off

At first ours never worked.

We had a software update carried out at dealers and it got better.
I then charged the battery fully and its worked as it should have ever since with or without day lights.

Ours has worked with / without DRL's. since December  Though the heavy braking / hazards thing always triggers a warning light which clears on restart. Don't you love all these electronic driving "aids" ?

Ok. Just took her for a long run with sides and heads on and it worked flawlessly. Clearly I didn't leave it long enough for the battery to reach the desired level. Very happy now. Thanks for all your comments though.

Hello. I had the same problem as you when I first got my MiTo. The S/S would not work. But if you read the manual, it says S/S will not activate for the first hundred or so miles to let the engine set in place. In your case, when your switched off your DRL's, that must have been around a hundred miles or so as your S/S could then work. The DRL's should not affect them. Mine's been working like a peach after a the first hundred or so miles. :)
