With much regreat need to sell my 159 to fund house renovation. Would appreciate any views on whether to sell privately or sell to a main dealer.

Car is a 1.9 JTDm Turismo, 06 plate, 41k miles.

Dealers are offering £8,200...think I could get more in a private sale but don't see many 159's up for sale privately.

A 2.4 jtd lusso with 91k went on ebay for £7,700.

I think you shopuld be able to get close to £9k - £9.5K depending on spec service histiry etc

Well you have the 1.9 diesel which is a big selling plus, but in turismo spec which is a big selling minus and it out of warranty which is another big minus
That said 2 Alfa dealers gave me valuations on mine which have been consistently beaten by non Alfa dealers. Admittedly i was getting prices to part x but that was against a brand new fully loaded 159 and the other non Alfa dealers were selling much cheaper cars. (7K less) I was even told that I had been offered £500 under glasses guide by the Alfa dealers so just goes to show. Why dont you try it on autotrader for a couple of weeks, will only cost you £20 or so and a morning to give it a decent clean and polish. If you dont have any joy sell it to a dealer and cut your losses. Big Italian saloons are always a 'specialist' market but ive never had trouble shifting mine in the past so long as you price sensibly. Ive never had a car yet I couldnt beat a delaer offer by at least £500 to £1000 by selling private.

Thanks for the advice. Will get it up for sale in next few days. Appreciate that Turismo is not most attractive spec so aiming to pitch around £9k which hopefully should attract someone looking to get on the Alfa 159 ladder.

I've seen the odd Turismo advertised with a leather interior. Is yours standard cloth trim?

Yes has dark grey cloth trim. Think most for sales around the £10k mark are Lussos so need to pitch mine accordingly to account for spec level.

I'm currently looking for a 159 and to be honest what is currently available is crapp.

There are ex fleet/company cars with intergallactic mileage for little money, Turismo derivatives with crapp power units for little money or low mileage newer models for silly money, the 159 market is a joke!

I've never and will never buy a used car from a dealer, I like to source my used cars from private enthusiastic caring owners but this is becoming more difficult these days.

There should be 159 bargains out there because big saloons aren't that easy to sell, but it's either lots of rubbish or nearly new, nothing in between..................................

Just weighing up my options on cost to change into a 1750TBI or possiby a pending 149, err Milano, err Giulia but my local stealer managed to royally p*ss me off so thats off the cards for the moment. Why would you be interested ? (Must be at least a fortnight since you swapped )

Well im mulling over getting shot of my 57 reg 2.2 TI if its of any interest (Its had the mangos mod 4 so no problem with hesitation and sounds great) Unlike a lot of TI's it has vis pack and electric heated leather. Stromboli grey with just under 20K on the clock FSH and about 9 months warranty left. Would want £14K. PM me if its of interest.

I want to hang onto the GT until the summer but I know eventually I will have to go back to four doors once the baby is here and starts to grow!!! I've had it over two months now. A world record :lol:

I really can't think of much else other than a Ti that I like. The '149' is also an option via my work lease scheme. Depending on how good a price they can do for me of course

If you are in no rush (which you possibly aren't if you do decide to wait for the '149') then the timing could be right

The touble is I love the GT with a passion. I can't get enough of it. Once the nipper goes to nursery though the fuel bills might just enforce a change :lol:
