Seeing as most of the other Tech Lounges have similar threads I though the Detailing Lounge could also do with something similar, so here's a thread to tell us all what detailing or cleaning supplies you've bought recently

Not today but earlier this year a Karcher K4 Ecologic was purchased to replace an old sick pressure washer which had served 10+ years.

I bought a clay mitt thing, as recommended by Keithyboy, and some Autoglym fast glass. Neither of which have arrived yet, but Amazon have given me a months free prime to apologise, and I wasn't in a rush anyway.

Also some Dodo Juice Ferrous Dueller fallout remover, which has arrived, and smells like ass.

Hopefully should get a chance to use them all this weekend.

I don't know whether to :cheese: or :weeping:
Good pre-wash for stripping oil/grease etc. before a proper deep clean I believe..

Bust out the Fairy for a quick spritz and rinse, then follow up with your auto-shampoo of choice.. Then body decontamination etc., as per usual....

So long as it's not left on to dry out, can't see it doing any harm ;)

Disclaimer - don't do this.

Really DON'T do it. Fairy Liquid leaves salt residues on your paint, it also doesn't remove waxes or sealants as many claim, the salt residues merely mask them. Use a proper pre-wash or snow foam prior to washing your car.

:censored:

Wanted dry cloud cover really.. Don't particularly fancy attempting to use new products out in the pishing rain!

Cherry Glaze comes off a breeze, even in sunlight.

So I have one of these:
Halfords | Farecla G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt

But I hadn't really thought about needing a lube of some kind. Looking through my supplies, I have some Simoniz Protection Deatailing wax. Will that do the trick? Just spray it on liberally and give it a bit of a rub? How do I know when I've done enough, not too much? Smooth to the touch?

I wouldn't use wax with it. Have you any quick detailer ? If not you might get away with using some shampoo if you mix it fairly strong so it gives lots of suds.

I haven't just a clay mitt but I've used clay bars, you shouldn't need to apply any real pressure, if it's dragging across the surface with resistance it probably needs more lube. The surface should feel smooth & slippery like wet glass to the touch once you've passed over the surface a couple of times.

I'd thought it was detailer, but like you, the word wax gave me pause.

The "Today I Bought Some Detailing Supplies" Thread

Nice selection

Sadly that's just the tip of the ice berg and what is becoming an obsession !

The previous purchase was DI vessel, and can't rave about this enough. It's outstanding, especially on sunny days, as it literally doesn't leave a mark on the car and completely touchless drying !
