After all the work I had done on the front end of the Alfa (upper & lower wishbones, shocks/springs/mounts, track rod ends and ARB drop links...the list goes on..) I had the garage re-align the tracking at the front. Long story short and 3 attempts I lost faith in their ability to get it tracked correctly so took it to a tuning company with a hunter system to have the geometry re done.
The come in to the waiting room after about 15 minutes and asked me if I knew where the locking wheel nut is, holding the box in his hand missing the vital part. GREAT, the garage has lost that. And as the camber adjusters were solid, we need it to get the wheels off to free them up.
Not only that, he shows me the front end! WOW. CV grease everywhere on the off side right (bearing in mind the other garage had it yesterday and said nothing!). He showed me a buldge right next to the clip joint and said it looks like its been caught when they did the work.
Next he shows me the steering rack gaitor, which has the whole end ripped off as they've turned the shaft without removing or freeing the clip and its torn the end off..... So now need a new steering rack boot.
So, I took it home and had a look at the CV boot, and the suspected damage. I thought it looked odd, so had a prod around at it. Yep, covered in silicone sealant! So, going to see the garage owner tomorrow. My question is, when doing the lower arms would you need to touch the CV boot, or could they have knocked it off accidentally which would cause them to need to re-do the clip hence the damage (They obviously knew of the damage as they put silicone over it) And if the grease has all been thrown out, will the joints life have been significantly reduced?
