...someone pointed out to me at Mallory (Think it may have been Xtreme)
that me engine was rattling a bit (almost like a diesel)

...can't say I'd noticed it before...it seems to come and go
and isn't REALLY THAT bad yet...but I have a feeling it'll get worse

...NOW...bear in mind my technical expertise :cheese:

...COULD it be the variator?...or are there other possibilities?

ANY help welcome...cheers :D

was it rattling only at idle ??? If so, it could well be the variator

At idle could just be the tappets as well...advanced variator wear will be noisy when you rev the engine :(

I would suggest it is the flimsy 16v variator whatever thingy that is failing.
Shoulda bought an 8v, the variators are tough on these old motas ;)

Shame about the differentials tho.
I think i have a worn variator too, dunno if it happens above idle cos i can't hear the engine above me stereo.

A wise move. You can never be too careful.
I hear the Owner's Club are planning a one size fits all bulk buy.
It's still hush hush though.
