Appaling, I'd expect the garage who should 'know' about GTA's would be AR, but instead it looks like they used parkers or we buy any car for advice!!!!! :tut:

That's 'Stealers' for you!

The same happened to me, they insaultingly offered £9.25K for a car valued at £11K Part Ex.

I walked, then sent an email telling them exactly why I walked.
You try and be reasonable and they just try and screw you.

They grovellingly got back to me and we made a deal.

They very greedily want to make maximum profit from each and every part of any deal, they are never satisfied with just a working profit from the total deal.

Yep had the same, when I was changing my nice 156 JTD the Alfa dealers offered the lowest px value by far. Needless to say I didn't buy a car from them.

I think they probably offered the low price because they don't really want to take the car as a trade in, I don't think any main dealers would be that interested in GTAs now due their age and potentialy very costly problems. GTA probably wouldn't make much money at a normal auction either due to being a bit specialised.

I gave up trading my cars in and always sell them private now, most dealers or traders will try and get away with whatever they can. There may be an element of they would end up sending the GTA to the auctions and would get little for it, few people want big engine cars with fuel prices as they are. Also at the age it may need need alot doing to prepare for retail and therefore to make the £2k - £3k profit they need on a px £3k probably isn't that far off.

I would love to see an old school dealer who is a full main dealer with interesting cars from all Alfas past in the showroom. However car retail is as we see with the GSC just a way of making money from all the finance we gobble up for our new shinny steeds. I know of a few independents that are like the first example but they then think that because they have a few old timers on the floor and on the staff they think they two are entitled to bone you.
