I've used pretty much all the Linux desktops which are out there over the years. After a bootleg version of Motif, the second was KDE which was always the Tonka Toy desktop which looked more at home in the nursery than the office. Then the KDE team broke everything with a new version which still looked like a child's plaything but none of the old plugins worked with it. That's when I moved to Gnome. Then Gnome came out with a new version which broke everything but looked crap and didn't work like a classic desktop. Then I moved to Cinnamon which is built on Gnome but looks more traditional. I quite like it.

Today I looked at KDE for the first time in about a decade. It's lovely.

Btw fiddled with that Lubuntu 20.04 on the other hard drive.....useless......slower as Nev opening his wallet.....the Raspberry may be heading to the frozen North.....even my son thinks it's a wee bit funky.
Anne says she will be happy because it gets rid of all that rubbish under the desk.......I despair.

Knowing me I will hold onto this Lubuntu 18.04 until the very last day of support....because I am tight as a gnat's chuff. :giggle:

And in my crazy OCD mind it's better the devil you know.

Been a bit OCD recently and been testing out other 32 bit Linuxes.
Having great "fun" trying to install ISOs via Unetbootin with numerous ups and downs but I am determined to find a 32 bit operating system to replace Lubuntu.
So ask we speak I have settled on Zorin OS Lite....am installing it on my other hard drive to test it out.
Fiddled with it on "try it out without installing" and I liked it.

Let's see.

Starting with Ubuntu 22.04 Firefox is installed as a Snap package. Snap has some advantages over normal package managers in terms of security and dependencies but it also adds some overhead. On most systems with a good amount of RAM and a decent enough processor you would be hard pushed to notice any performance difference. My old tablet has neither a good amount of RAM nor a decent enough processor so I was finding it very sluggish. Happily you can remove the snap version and get a normal package instead. It really makes a difference on my tablet.

If you have a crappy computer with a recent Linux then here is the procedure:
