I've noticed The Car People (showrooms in Wakefield, Sheffield, and Manchester) have got quite a few Breras in over the last few days. Does anybody know much of their reputation etc?

Dunno.. but car supermarkets = non-specialised knowledge. That's not a bad thing.. just get a warranty as if there's any aggro at all, they won't be much help.

The one at Wakefield at least seems to have a decent reputation locally and cars I have looked at there have always been immaculately presented. Relative bought a Toyota there and is perfectly happy with the car/deal etc. Quite a lot of the cars don't seem to come with a service book though throwing up warranty questions etc. too. Also to me their prices seem similar to main dealers and from what I have heard they aren't keen to talk big discounts.

A good friend went out with the daughter of the guy who owns the group funnily enough.

They seemed to be turning over a lot of business from what he said and sounded like a very successful business.

What are their prices like? My only direct experience with car supermarkets is that their cars are somewhat overpriced and their salespeople don't have a great deal of knowledge...

About average I'd say. A 06 plate Brera 2.2 JTS SV with 35k on the clock, leather and 17" alloys is £13,500 which is pretty much what you would expect at a dealer

car people query

I test drove a couple of brera's at the Car People both of which they acquired at auction. They seemed pretty good - and actually cheap. However I got talking to a sales guy at an Alfa Garage and he said that Alfa dealers will try to buy in as many Brera's as possible as they are now one of the better sellers second hand. He wondered why an Alfa dealer had not wanted to pick them up and thought the dealers may have chosen to leave them for some reason. Dunno if this is right - particularly given that dealers are hardly the most objective of folk.
