Mrs. V’s MiTo (Twinair, Junior) was imported into Ireland from the UK, so the speedo arc is in MPH, with the KM/H marked with a smaller font in a less visable red. During the day the KM/H marks are difficult to see, so I’m planning to swap the instrument panel for an Irish/European spec one where the KM/H is in the larger white font.
Has anyone swapped an instrument panel on the MiTo? Are there any gotcha’s to watch out for?
I’m assuming the new item will need to be from the same engine spec (twinair). Does the instrument panel or the ECU keep track of the vehicle mileage?
If it's the same as on the other CAN based Alfa's (as I expect), the mileage is tracked independantly in 2 places, the instrument cluster and the engine ECU.
To be able to adjust the instrument odometer, the replacement unit must have a lower mileage then the car currently has, as you can increase the instrument value, but not decrease, in order to make fraude more difficult.
To set the odometer you will need MultiEcuScan. You will need this anyway to perform a proxy alignment to make the new instrument panel known to the car
(Alternatively via the Witech dealer computer)
Although I have not tried it, I strongly suspect that if you had the two clusters side by side you could dismantle them and just swap the faces with the numbers over and keep your original innards to save any coding or alignment being needed afterwards.
A strange observation as I can see the 0kph & 260kph seem to be in the same position but look at the difference at 160kph???
