Are there bearings or something in there?! Or how can you tell if they need changing?

I'm going to change my shocks/springs at the weekend and I wondered if it's worth getting the top mounts changed at the same time. The car has done lots of miles and all looks original to me.

Anything else worth changing/looking at when changing the shocks/springs?

Cheers,

Mark

There are no bearings in the mounts. The front suspension is double wishbone, so the struts do not turn as they would with a simpler strut suspension. The 147/156 struts are only to provide a suspension medium, and are not load bearing suspension members.

It may be worth changing the mountings if you are doing work to the front suspension springs/dampers/top wishbones anyway, and the car has covered about 100K. In that case, new ones can improve damper reaction over broken surfaces and improve both ride and roadholding, but probably only slightly.
