Has anybody had this fault, i've got a heavy knock on the o/s/f of the vehicle, replaced ARB bushes and droplinks on the front, i knew they knackered so it was the first obvious port of call, it went for 2 days and back but very heavy. Checked for play on the suspension and found none, checked shockers o.k replaced last year. It only happens when the car is coasting, as soon as you accelerate or cruising it will not knock, when it knocks it will be on uneven roads or potholes, never on a sleeping policeman. It sounds like it comes from the supension turrets. any suggestions people?

hi j44kdc

My alfa's just back from the local specialist so far I have had top wishbones, drop-links, anti roll bar, eibach pro springs and dampers fitted, and still it "knocks" at low speed and on rough roads.

Since the drop-links and anti roll bar was done it has improved.... a bit.

To be honest after spending so much, I'm gutted. It handles brilliantly, just sounds like its going to fall apart!

I'd also really appreciate advice, btw the specialist said that the lower wishbones were fine.

I had exactly the same thing. It's the track rods (not ends) and while not listed as an official Alfa part (they would ask you to change the steering rack . . . .) EB Spares do a cure here. Another contributor in my case were the shocks too. The poly bushes are worth a whirl too . . . .
I too have the Eibach springs on my car, and much as I enjoy it, I would not have another lowered car again as I am now convinced that it puts other suspension components under much more stress and strain.

I´ve got a rattle/knock coming from somewhere down, between the front seats. It´s a quiet sound, at low speeds and revs, when the car is "shaking" a bit as it normally can do, and when passing rough surfaces. Same as yours?

My garage could only find that it may come from the very start of the exhaust pipe (that´s supposed to be about between the seats). Gonna change some stuff and then we´ll see.

I've sorted it, a mixture of 3 faults, 2 on the o/s/f an 1 on the n/s/f.
I stripped the full front suspension off to find the n/s/f top wihbone bush split but had no play when jacked up, the o/s/f lower wishbone rear bolts had stretched and corroded (they snapped without out to much force) so i fitted a nut and bolt in place and the top wishbone balljoint worn, but i could only fault it when stripped off the hub assembley. So at the moment all good and back to thrashing it around!!!:)

Hi Chris, are your spring /dampers much harder etc than before?,thinking of fitting that set up myself, contemplating Koni FSD's,but exspensive,i've got standard Lusso spec suspension on a V6. Did they change your top strut mounts?.

How difficult/costly is it to replace the inner track rods?! I know they are £38ex vat, but I wondered if you had it done at a garage or did it yourself as I'm interested in doing it too?

Cheers,

Mark
