Hi I'm on holiday in Newquay and my 2.0 JTS Sportwagon will not select 4th gear. All of the other gears are fine but it won't even go into 4th with the engine off. Does anybody know a friendly garage around Newquay who might be willing to help please?
I've searched and found a link to what could be a simple fix (How To... Remedy a non selecting 4th Gear) and would like to see if this solves it.
I don't fancy driving back to Derbyshire without 4th gear; although I just had to drive about 20 miles (non-motorway) and it was do-able.

hi mate........cant help u with garage but it shouldnt be a problem to get home without 4th, just go from 3rd to 5th, i feel ur pain though when stuff happens on holiday ! there are worse things that could have happend though

Thanks Gary. I'm going to ask a local friend if they know any mechanic who would be willing to have a go at the fix I found and I wondered if anybody else had had a similar problem where the fix worked.

Hopefully if the motorways are clear most of the journey will be in fifth anyway!

Hi i live in truro ,not far from newquay ,just to let you know there is a alfa romeo main dealer at scorrier which is only down the coast from you ( 10 miles or so).there is a indie garage that i take mine to ( sevenmilestone garage ,st agnes TR5 0PF ) its a bosch service center and i have had no problems with them .( 01872 553864 ) worth a try .hope these are of help and good luck .

I was wondering the same myself. It must be in the way of something moving to select 4th. There is resistance when I try to select it.
I don't think that the later posts regarding setting fire to it would be very practical. Unfortunately there hasn't been any rioting in Newquay to cover it up!

I can confirm there was no rioting in Newquay....it always looks like that ! :cheese: There is also an Alfa garage in St Erth, near Hayle. not sue on the address/number. will look it up.
