Strainer filter

Hello,
I was wondering if somebody could help me, I have Alfa Mito 0.9 Twin air, I have read that the strainer filter should be cleaned every oil change. Does anyone know where it is on the engine.

Many Thanks
John.

If it’s anything like the MA engine it will be behind the top timing cover.
Lovely thanks I will have a look to see if I can find it. Thanks again.
This is what you require, as for its position I can’t help.

This from Fiat Forum as the twin air is used in the 500 too. Go to post #13 for a guide on how to do it. Further posts show a different cap over it. The strainer fits vertically at the rear of the head whereas on the Multiair it is at the cam belt end of the head and fits horizontally.

Thank you everyone this has been really helpful.
I came across this thread trying to find information on where the strainer is on my Twin Air Mito. However, the linked Fiat page (for me anyway) seems a bit of a mix of Multi air and Twin air, so I'm unclear as to where it is. Sadly no Youtube videos either. I haven't got a workshop manual yet, but I don't think there is one for the Mito anyway, at least not a Haynes one?

Just wanted to take mine out to check as the dealers supposedly changed it when they serviced the car before I bought it, but looking at the colour of the oil I'm not convinced they even changed the oil...
Just to update this thread I have found, removed and checked my Twin Air strainer. Photos below to save anyone having to go to the Fiat forum:

Location of the cap covering the strainer. Just behind the coil packs and in front of the air filter housing mounting spigot, circled in orange:

Cap removed by turning about 1/8 turn anticlockwise then levering it up and out to reveal the top of the strainer:

A thin walled 15mm socket just fits down the hole, which luckily I already had. Some additional cable ties round the coil pack connectors I guess to hold them on securely, so have left them in place:

Then removed:

Strainer was nice and clean (dealer had replaced it before sale, but being a cynic I wanted to check :p):

Reverse side of the cap that covers the strainer:

I hope this is of use to other Twin Air owners who might want to check/clean theirs. (y)

Thanks a lot for this awesome manual! Great job! Is there oil pressure on the strainer?

I presume there is oil pressure on the strainer since it being blocked can cause damage to the Twin Air unit. However, it hasn't been easy to find out information about how it works. I'm happy to know that it was changed and is one less thing to worry about going wrong on my 'new' car. :)

Yeah okay, but if the engine doesn't run there is no oil pressure and I can remove and clean it without losing oil?

Es tut mir leid.

I understand now: There is no oil pressure when the engine is stopped and it can be removed without losing oil. (y)

It works exactly same as a normal oil filter, oil is pumped up a gallery and the strainer is effectively in series of said gallery so oil passes through the sides where it’s filtered and then comes out the bottom back in to the gallery and off to the twin air solenoids.

That’s only going to be a low ish torque 20-25nm is what I would do that to.

Are your sure that it is a 15 mm hexagon?

Yes, for sure. I don't think you can read it in this photo. I had read that I'd need a 'thin walled' 15mm socket and I just happened to have the one in this photo as my other one was too 'fat' to fit down the hole:

I did it today. Thanks again for this awesome manual. But can anyone tell me why there is so much oil between cap and filter? Where does it come from? Nevertheless, the filter looked clean, but it cleaned it and the cap again with some brake cleaner spray.
