Hello
Further to previous post the 166 is still pinking like mad when the engine is under even modest load , I have checked all conections and the car is running at 90 dead on. It hasnt been the same after scaring me to death by the temp gauge shooting up a couple of weeks ago even though the physical engine seems ok (touch wood) .
The pinking is only there when the engine is at operating temp and no disaster light appeared on the obd .
could it be the engine temp sensor faulty ? ,Do these 166,s have Anti knock sensors (its a 2.0 TS ) if so could it be this and where is the anti knock sensor to be found ?
Thanks

According to e-learn....yes, it has a knock sensor. It's located on the engine block, about in line with #2, tucked underneath the bulge in the crankcase for the upper balancer shaft....of course, round the back!

Could really do with reading the ECU to see if there are any codes stored - might help the diagnosis.

TBH, for the sake of £20, get yourself one of those cheap jobs off e-bay. Always a handy thing to have and will work on all modern cars (as they have to comply with OBDII standards these days).

Thanks for that ,why do they allways put the stuff you want round the back.
Also i have just been having a fiddle with the 166 and decided to unplug the MAF and take it for a spin when it was up to temp apart from being a bit gutless it was pinking a bit so i stopped reconnected the MAF and it was pinking loudly again so turned round and disconnected again and to use the exact same road to get a like for like and it once again was a lot quieter in fact nearly not there , So could a MAF do this ? I removed it and it seems nice and clean with no obvious faults.
I do have an obd reader and it registered no faults !

The inlet air temp sender is embeded in the MAF, so maybe time to try a new one. An expensive punt though. Bet you have a code or two stored now you've run it without the MAF!

BTW, knock sensors are extremely picky about being installed with the correct torque, so watch that if you end up looking there.
