Hello chaps.

I've got a steering fluid leaking from where the rack ends and the gator starts. Has anyone any experience of this and is the fix expensive?

Also, I am about to move to Bournemouth, so can anyone recommend an independent Alfa specialist in the locale?

By the by, I've been commuting from Oxfordshire to Bournemouth the last month or so, and the 166 is a marvellous car for the job, except for the rather painful fuel bills when one 'expedites'. I get 27-ish mpg at a 'normal' pace Cruising at 85 mph and averaging 65 mph overall, reducing to 21 mpg for late night driving with a 100 mph cruise, averaging 85 mph overall.

Don't know about the power steering problem, but S+H Motors in Poole have a good reputation. As do Southern Alfa in Southampton. I don't have any personal experience of either myself though.

Hmmm, if the seals in rack have blown the gaitors usually fill up with fluid and it can then blow out of any hole it finds. I hope for your sake it isnt this as a rack job is not a pretty thing to behold when you get the bill for the work. Is it definately steering fluid and not just grease?
