as of yesterday my car began squeaking when going over larger bumps etc, it came on all of a sudden i've tried WD-40ing all the rubbers etc and mde no difference, how ever when looking at the car from behind it appears slightly uneven, the passenger side rear wheel has a bigger gap between the tyre and the arch then the wheel on the drivers, side any ideas what's causing this and a roguh price guide, would it be an alfa specialist job or would Mr Tyre, Kiwk Fit etc be able to sort it?

hi there,
i bet with good money your front springs have collapsed due to rust snapping the top few coils off
and in my case bottom coils as well

the squeaking for me is the top wish bones
speed humps do it the most for me

mine passed the mot like this because its almost impossible to spot them at the very top

the back might be high because the front is low
and the sweaking is maybe due to they (wishbones) are now at a different and now higher possition

that could make sense the front right seems to squeak a little too, that would explain the high rear passenger wheel if that ones lower would explain the car not sitting evenly

spings on ebay 100 for a set (safty first if ones gone the other might soon)
wishbones are 80 each i think
took a day for me to do mine
i won't be attempting a job like that myself, that will be going to the garage to be done, i had all on replacing my air box when it got damaged in a minor shunt, not much of a mechanic i'm afraid

surely though if a spring had broke it would affect the cars handling, cause so far as i can tell it's still driving as well as it ever did

its about 4 inches of the spring i lost but it did drive fine. or so it seamed
just boat like
thing is it means the spring is not sat in the holders correctly and maybe at an angle like mine were
this is how i noticed the lower part broken too.
the top was easy to spot when it was out the car
but the bottom is in a plasdtic cover and had broke in a way that was hard to spot
i drove mine like it without knowing
so i would not be frightend to drive it just get it sorted
i sorted mine because i didnt know how long the rest of the spring would last

hey everyone, quick update dropped by Alfa Technico today took the car for quick test drive and confirmed diagnosis, is off side front top wishbone creaking, and near side ARB Drop Link needs replacing which is the cause of the knocking, have been quoted £140 + VAT in total for parts and labour does this seems a fair price seems reasonable to me

Not to hijack this but I have a recent squeak develop on the front offside - squeaks over bumps.. squeaks more when turning the wheels at a standstill. Points toward bottom ball joint but I understand they are one piece wishbones and non replaceable ball joint only jobs. Is this a home job? or anyone know someone that can do one and not cost the price of the car. (braces self for cost.. )

sounds a fair price to me .
and if you take it else where it can only get a few quid cheaper .
the cost of the parts are half the total price.
potentialy a horrid job on both acounts

if it is the wish bones it's not that big a deal, as i said i've been quoted £110 plus VAT for the replacement of the top wishbone plus the cost of the ARB droplink too
