Hi all, our 1999 Spider 2.0 T-Spark has started spluttering and misfiring at low revs when driven. Problem appeared after a period of 3-4 weeks of inactivity. Now, idle tends to be ok, but can sound rough when travelling and seems to lose power. Problem tends to clear and then reappear.

Not mechanically minded, but from posts on the forum for other models, looks like we need to look at plugs and airflow. Any thoughts?

We live in the high humidity of Brisbane, Oz which may be a factor.

Could be the AFM (air flow meter), water temp sensor (on thermostat), lambda or idle actuator starting to play up.

Might also be worth checking the plug holes for water or oil contamination, especially one and two.

...and welcome ;)

This dodgy petrol thing is making big news ... BBC News

The article specifically mentions cars with engine management systems and oxygen sensors on the exhaust.

If it is that, it looks like the damage is covered under the terms of comprehensive insurance.

Thanks All, been through 2 tanks of fuel from different sources so ruled that out and not sure Australia has caaught the not-so-Supermarket fuel bug...yet. Will investigate the other potentials.
