I am addressing the air intake side of the engine. Various problems including some previous hack glued the carbs to metal manifold mounts - with no flexibility. But my first question is about the airbox. Air intake comes from the filter, then across top of the engine into the airbox. Why is there a 20mm steel pipe (30mm long) with gauze over the end, coming out of the airbox cover. Also there is a 6mm pipe coming out of the side of this steel pipe. Anybody able to explain what this is all about?
Cheers.
OK - I have just found a bunch of images showing that this pipe is for the Rocker box breather. I thought these went into a catch can but I was obviously mistaken. the 6mm pipe I assume is the crankcase breather. Doesn't the oily vapour from these breathers gum up the carbs. ?
