The first speed of my spider Series 4 heater fan/blower is not working anymore. Anyone any ideas? Obviously the motor is ok or it wouldn't work on any of the 2 speeds.
The light for the first speed also doesn't show...can it be the switch itself needs a clean? or is there a relay for the heater perhaps, that controls both speeds? The fast (2nd) speed operates fine, no noises from the fan motor etc.
Thanks for your ideas!:)

The 'slow speed' first switch position works by feeding the power
through a resistor to the motor. The resistor is attached to the
motor. There are no relays in the system just the switch contacts.
The light on the dash is fed across the motor commutator.... which
is why it sometimes flickers at low speed... or if the motor isn't
turning it wont come on at all (which was my problem - seized bearing).

With luck it might be your switch contacts.... if not you have a more
difficult problem because getting to the motor isn't easy. (I 'fixed' my
seized bearing by spraying silicone lubricant into the footwell outlets)

Here's a link to AlfaBB that'll show the fan...

Did you check the switch yet? If not just take it out and give it a good spray with electrical contact cleaner (not WD40) leave it to dry and then try it, this normally does the job!

just did this, except I used brake cleaner, then held the switch at the end of the hoover end and sucked out all the dust! Took 10 minutes. Switch is made in France....odd that!
Works a treat now!
Thanks for the tip, saves me opening the fan motor to get at the resistor.:)
