Hi Guys,

At the weekend I bought my first 916 Spider, a 2002 Phase 2.

It's got an automatic hood, it's like a Transformer! It works perfectly but I'd like to keep it that way so is there anything I need to do maintenance wise?

I've ordered a Renovo kit to keep the hood itself tidy and waterproof (http://amzn.to/1ZOeSii) but do the hydraulics or motors need any special care?

Just keep everything well greased/oiled, keep an ear out for main cog wear, best replaced with a metal one.

Ok, thanks.

Is there any particular type of grease/oil required? I've not had a look at the mechanisms as yet, it's been raining but I'll hopefully check them over at the weekend.

It seems in good nick, drove it 400 miles in the pouring rain on Saturday and I was surprised there are no leaks or wind noise at all.

Feel a bit clueless at the moment, I should have done some research before buying it really. Impulse purchase.

It's worth checking the hydraulic fluid level. Lower the hood so that the fluid has settled into the reservoir. The resevoir can be found under the removable carpet in the compartment behind the seats. It's on the N/S. Yiu will need a torch and a mirror to see the level which should be no lower than the bottom line on the resevoir. You can top up with this:

you will need a plastic tube and a hand pump. There is a small brass screw on the top yiu will need to remove to top up.

Also, while the hood is down, lift the clam shell on the rear, covering the hood, using the switch behind the drivers seat (with the engine on) you can then check for any leaks from the hydraulic Rams by looking below them for any pools of fluid.
