I've just bought a Spider and it now has ABS and airbag lights on, I've heard rumours that these are common faults adn are relatively easy to fix, please tell me I'm right?! It also has developed a really rough idle, and nearly stalls every time I stop at traffic lights, very disconcerting for my wife! If anyone has any ideas they would be gratefully received, I'm a reasonably competent DIY mechanic so am willing to give some things a try. Or does anyone know a good specialist in the bristol area?
ps. Ive tried changing out the MAF unit, no difference.
Thanks

Welcome!

The Air bag light and ABS are simple fixes unless you have a problem with your brakes.... Under the drivers seat there are connections unplug these and plug them up again and make sure it is snug tight.

Secondly check and fill your engine fluids (brake, steering, oil etc)

Thirdly disconnect the battery and leave disconnected for about 45 mins. This will drain the electrical system and wipe the ECU memory.
***ONLY DISCONNECT THE BATTERY IF YOU HAVE THE RADIO CODE***

Then start the car and let idle for about 15mins and then go for a good drive give her a bit of stick!:D

If you still have warning lights on you will need to get to an Alfa specialist and have it diagnosed or reset....

If the engine still runs rough check all your intake pipes for looseness of splits. Also disconnect the pipe going into the throttle body and clean the butterfly clip and make sure it operates freely....

All the best

Cheers Josh

PS Your wife is disconcerted because all the ladies are gleaming at you in the Spider:p !
