I just got letter this morning for notice of intended prosecution for alleged offence exceeding 30 mph

I cant see how he got me as I was behind a van and it was raining heavily at the time and visability was bad

It could be that the Number Plate doodah mis-read the plate of a Ford Mondeo or something in that bad visibility and they identified it as your car.. but if it's a time and date and route that you used.. you may be buggered.

Ask for a photo so you can see if it was your car or not..

If it is you, then at least you'll have proof showing your car, time and date .. and that you were clocked at 98mph in a 30.. or something. :D But say your missus was driving at the time.. :D

But at least it makes the points/fine a little easier to bear if you have a souvenir out of it.. :)

If they have a picture of you, ask to do a speed awareness session. It'll cost you £100 but will avoid you the 3 points or hold your hands up and take the fine.

If it wasn't your car, take it to court - if it goes that far after contesting it. But it seems like a whole load of hassle when you might end up with court costs, time off work etc.

The second one you link to actually says in the advert: Suitable for high risk areas, traffic calming or accident blackspots.

Speed cameras are (well, were) usually sited at accident hotspots. That was the "reason" they used to put them up.

Stick bigger wheels on your car and argue that your dash told you that the speed you were traveling was 30mph, its easier to dispute the equipment they use and it accuracy
.
Makes no difference, they only go off the speed equipment they have, not what your speedo tells you.You might as well say that you was going at 0 mph because your speedo was broken hence the speed you was traveling was zero.............

Not quite! a non working speedo is an offense full stop. but, a working speedo could and have been tested and used in defense of the alleged "Speeding Driver"

Out of interest, and you don't have to answer but, is it the first time you've been nicked for speeding and how many, if any points are on your licence ?

If it's a first offence and your licence is clean there could be the option of a speed awareness course maybe ?

The last points I had was SP30 10 years ago but I havent had them removed yet. I think they stay on for 3 years.

In Warwickshire speed awareness courses are only open to those within 10% of the allowed limit. They allow 10% margin before they issue a ticket (eg 33 in a 30 limit), so the course is for those wih 37mph or less (in a 30 limit). Other counties/cities have different rules but I doubt they would be as lenient as Warwickshire. Needless to say I speak from experience:cry:
