I get wound up by quite a few things... usually poor road design by Aberdeen Traffic Engineers, but this week its the ***** that are :mad:driving along the A90 at the legal limit (70 mph) but slam on their brakes as soon as they see a fixed speed camera ???

WTF???

Probably because huge numbers of people think the speed limit on a dual carriageway is only 60.
I recently spoke to my Mum about this. I was told when I was learning (been driving almost 6 years) that all dual carriageways were 70. However loads of people have said to me (including my Mum) say they are only 70 if there is a barrier in the middle of each direction?

I'm pretty sure it's 70 regardless, am I right?

Table of speed limits for cars, HGVs, buses and towing vehicles........
UK Speed Limits

The one most people don't know about is HGVs restricted to 40 on A roads, they just think the driver is being awkward.......

*sorry for being off subject, just replying to above post*

I don't think there needs to be a barrier, just a central reservation. There are some other factors that effect the speed limit that applies, but in those case there will invariably be speed limit signs displayed at regular intervals. I think if a road has street lights then the speed limit should be assumed as 30 unless other wise stated.

I know that stretch of road - not been up there for about six years, but the same was happening then :banghead:

I bet these are the same folk who brake on the motorway because they spot a brake light in another lane...

Mmm not sure about the assumption regarding Street Lights. There are long stretches of " A " roads and Motorways that have street lighting and obviously have the NSL. Also places like the Peterborough Parkways that are fully lit and have the NSL applied for most of their length, don't think that there is a 30/40 Limit on any of these. ( But not sure, I only ever pass through Peterborough - as quickly as possible ! ) :D

If there are street lights in a residential area and no speed limit signs then it is 30 so yes the roads you mention are not included.

I have never seen a caravan owner obey the motorway towing speed limit (60), or the dual carriage way speed limit (60) or the A road limit (50) for that matter, which also explains the massive crash I saw on the M5 bridge last year ...

Surely it's compulsory to panic brake when you see a yellow camera pointing at the oncoming traffic - two out of three drivers do it round here.

Agreed - that's the one that winds me up most...OK, I know that Truvelo cameras are often positioned on the opposite side of the road facing you, and they deserve to be treated with - er - respect....but Gatsos only work when you have passed them.......so don't brake for one on the other side of the road, you cretins......

and to confirm an earlier post - when I was on my (ahem) Speed Awareness Course the presenter asled the question about speed limit on a NSL dual carriageway - about half the attendees thought it was 60....to his credit, his response was - "so you're the idiots who are holding the rest of us up....";)

I do 70 regardless on a duel carriageway, iv always thought that was the speed limit, 60mph on a single unless other wise stated.

Just out of curiosity I was coming along the A47 about 2 oclock on sunday morning and seen a a speed camera facing me. It was fixed, so my question, whats the range on these forward facing cameras? is it the same as gatso? As in white lines. I did have to slow down but im not sure if I was to late.

.
It's only 70 on a DCW if there is a crash barrier in the middle.

@OP it is ammazing how many people don't know the rules of the road. I saw a program once where the interviewed a load of old people who still drove. Non of them knew the correct national speed limit stating mainly 50/55:rolleyes:
