I took my car to an independent place to get it serviced , having previously used the dreaded main dealers. They phoned up to say it needed new pads and discs so I asked how much? The price quoted was above the Shop4parts price which I pointed out. I was told the could " do something " about it. I pointed out that they provide o.e parts unless stated. They did!
I now have seriously rusty brake discs showing through the lovely alloy wheels . The parts were not original equipment , obviously. But had they asked if I wanted inferior parts? No . What can I do other than never use them again? I've had the car from new and obviously look after it. Now the car is seriously devalued. By their short term thinking. Everybody goes on about using independent "specialists" but they don't seem any cheaper and I'm not happy with the results of their decision to do this to my car.

The point is that I don't usually go cheap and I expect to be asked before somebody does so on my behalf. It looks [email protected] and I would not have agreed to their decision.

As an AlfaOwner you just have to accept that you are way more picky than
the vast majority of car owner who never even look at the brake discs and
such like.

and they are an Alfa specialist who should know how picky I am. I simply questioned their price relative to what I saw elsewhere and didn't say to match it by providing lower quality parts.

Quality always means price, price not always (i.e. never ) means quality.
Life is much harder than a dick actually.

Had to do this on the front brakes of the Lexus when I bought it, exactly the same issue.

Nice relaxing hour in the sun painting them a nice light grey:thumbup:

I've never done anything like this on my cars and don't plan to very soon. Especially with on-street parking!

I've got better stuff to do than sit in the gutter fettling my car then dodging passing cars with only a paintbrush for protection!
How long before the corrosion turns monochrome and dark then?

They have just used cheap uncoated discs.

They probably do meet OE spec in terms of braking, so they haven't really told any lies.

The ones I got from shop4parts for my G look to have a metal plating on them. Obviously it soom wears off on the pad contact area, but the rest is still looking like new 6 months and a winter on.

For future reference as long as you don't have brembos I always use kwikfit. With the lifetime guarantee they give you on the brakes I normally get 2 sets of pads out of them and the disc prices have been very competitive. Have never had any rust issues either.

Put some hammerite on them.

Silver, white or black would look ok.
