Because it’s Charles Aznavour, this will be ribbed. But it is lovely, and funny. He’s a bit wet, and his missus sounds like she’s high maintenance. But - cheese alert - they rather love each other. I’m sure many couples can relate to this, when you just want to do the right thing:

Lived through the sixties witnessing the emergence of Clapton, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and so on. Man, I like saw them live, you know? Recently I've developed a taste for The Seekers with Judith Durham. I have shocked myself.

What did make me feel very uncomfortable the other day was Money For Nothing - a song which I adore - coming up on Spotify. Except it was the full version (which I wasn't aware even existed) with a verse constantly referring to someone as a 'little faggot'. :(
The story goes that Knopfler "wrote it after overhearing delivery men in a New York department store complain about their jobs...Many of the lyrics were things they actually said"

Monkeys For Nothin' And The Chimps For Free - genius.

Naff 80s song that even managed to trouble the top of the hit parade.
But absolutely love the bass intro - proper early 80s stuff. Turn off before the chorus kicks in...

Just remembered me and a couple of mates heading to find The Hacienda listening to Pelican West in the mid 80s. In my jave green mini estate with its unfeasibly large stereo

Ah, The Hacienda, one of my haunts from the times we went to Manchester on a Saturday night :):):)

Only ever went once. It was truly a mad night out! Not sure how I drove back to Southport.

Based on an assumed age from the thread of how long we've been driving our paths may have crossed previously in the Hac, lussoman!!!

...possibly. I had a number of friends in Manchester around the time of 'Madchester' and used to get over for a lot of the Saturday nights. Hacienda was every now and again, also fondly remember Discoteque Royale and 21 Piccadilly.
We had a number of nights out in Southport as well - I remember Kingsway and the casino.
I never drove on the night though, so all a bit vague!
Happy days!

Jesus Kingsway is a blast from the past!!
Ahh good days and night

Then in to the 90s and it was Liverpool for Fridays and Saturdays. Friday night, 1st to see Tranmere, then pub, a game of spoof for who phones/pays for taxi under the river. Then the Old Post Office then The Cabin. At some point we got home or to some lady's house or student flat.

Repeat on Saturday (except for the footy)

excuse me, but this is descending into a thread about good 80's songs. :p

We are supposed to be posting songs that we shouldn't really like, are we not?

So...have a crap song that reminds me of a great holiday in Spain

The Flower Pot Men were, of course, the cool and trendy flower-power reincarnation of the famously uncool Tossing and Turning Ivy League. Does knowing that earn me another reduction in my street cred?

OK Muz, you will have to accept being beaten on this one. I own this record and I play it (when no-one's around) and I like it.
