Hi all,

Few years since I've been here so hi to all!

I'm close to purchasing an Alfa spider 3.2 Q4 and just had a few questions....

Is there a buyers guide anywhere? Had a good search thru the forums but couldn't see anything. I apologise if it is here and have missed it!

Are there any known reliability issues? I understand as a whole these are just as reliable as many of its German rivals!?

Can anyone recommend a good specialist got servicing in the Wiltshire area?

I have a small sports car hire business currently running a boxster 987, and soon to add an SLK and either a TT or Alfa. Favouring the Alfa at the moment for sure. I have a soft spot for Italian cars, as I have a fiat coupe 20vt and a new shape fiat 500 :D

If I do add the Alfa, I want to make sure I know all about what to expect, especially as many will get to drive it!!

Cheers, Mark

I love my 3.2 Q4. If you park it out the front of your hire shop, business will double overnite. Now, issues:
Tyre wear
Badges fade
Paint chips
Soft top could scrape on roll bars
Low rev limit in first gear.
Customers won't want to get out of it...

Thanks mczero for the heads up on those points.

Thankfully nothing too serious from the points you've made there. Desirability from a hire point of view is one thing I've got to try and gauge from people. In my eyes, looks alone would probably draw many in. However it's got to pay.

One thing I want to do is park the 3 cars up in an upmarket shopping centre, give out leaflets etc. Bright red boxster 987, silver or black SLK with AMG kit, and the Alfa spider. I know it's Alfa biased on here, but would the Alfa lined up with the other 2 make you think "I want the Alfa"....?

Weddings are also the backbone of hires so are important too!

Check the old threads on buying 2nd hand.

Premature steering rack failure is common across models/engines.

Mechanically they're the same (apart from roof issues) so 159/Brera issues
will mostly apply.

Hi Nev, have tried that but couldnt seem to find anything specific to the spider
Same car essentially as the Brera and 159 so look at those for issues.

Having owned a Boxster, and now drive a Brera (Spider with roof), I can certainly say i'd be more drawn to the Spider, albeit from a day trip in a hire perspective, it'd be a close call.

I would have zero interest in the Merc.

Hi Mark,

Just a couple of other things:
Petrol consumption is probably more than you wou would expect, especially with lead foot customers.
And there are some nice books on it and the Brera coming up on eBay occasionally, all in Italian so far.
No good to me, but might be ok for you.

Cheers,
mczero
