Ah, she sounds like a dick :(
She's the sort of person that comes up to your whilst your obviously busy and then talks to you and makes you pay attention then stands there and watches over you while you do what she wants.

She'll come and start talking to you even if your on the phone, ignorant sow.

Most of the time I just tell her to put a support call in, annoying cow.

Really ugly as well.

Lock out all her accounts. E-mail, organiser and lan logon. When she phones get someone to ask her her mothers maiden name, what she did last night, her bra size etc.....
Should provide a laugh or two:lol:

I feel your pain mate. I just tell them when I'm doing the work and as long as we have an approved ticket for it the server goes down. They lose work well, hey, we can all read can't we? Hope your rebuild isn't too painful.

To a total layman it sounds as though she's caused you extra work because you tried to save them extra work. I'd find it hard to be so considerate next time.
Sounds like some subtle sweet revenge is called for, I think killing her is a tad harsh though:lol:

Confront the stupid cow. Tell her in front of all her colleagues that as she was unable to follow a simple instruction, intended as a favour to them, you have suffered extra unnecessary work, and that from now on you will be completely shutting down the server whenever work needs doing to prevent this happening again.

Belittle her a bit in front of her workmates, then periodically shut down the server, and her colleagues will whinge at her and she might bet the message.

Failing that, sellotape a haddock under her chair.

These new fangled computers make my head spin.

If the prospect of anyone using it while you were tinkering with it raises such bile, why did you leave it turned on in the first place? I'm struggling a little to see the benefit to your colleagues by leaving it on, if they weren't supposed to use it anyway.

ahh that reminds me of the person who decided to reboot the exchange server when I was half way though trying to repair the exchange store remotley.

"It was running slow so I rebooted it"

ARGH!

This is why, when I worked in direct IT support , I tended to give my occupation as "Muppet Wrangler"..

but yeah, in future, I'd drop the connection so they can't

(I work in application test and support now and still have to remote on to user sites, you clear all the users out as the system is down, send as many messages as you like and some numpty will always try and connect "just to see if it's fixed yet", rather than wait for the say so from the manager that we are in contact with)...

On the other side, I just got confirmation
of a support ticket I opened 2 1/2 weeks ago
about a large email a customer sent (800Mb )
that got "stuck" somewhere and was repeatedly
turning up in my mail box every 30 minutes,
(for 3 days) putting my mail account over it's limit and
not letting me send any emails until I downloaded
it every time and deleted it.

"Sorry is this still an issue? Or can I close the call?"

Because I was dialed in from home and to take down the service that stopped them logging on would also stop me logging on and doing the work I needed to do.

;)

I believe the best course of action has already been mentioned and I shall be buying a haddock shortly.

Why do people not understand that while you may be looking like you are just staring at a screen doing nothing, you are most likely dealing with something that needs a lot of thought and is a complete head****!

I have ended up doing a lot of network stuff here and the number of times someone interupts while sorting out configs is unbelievable, I will admit to screwing up a while back as someone asked me some stupid question while I was editing an access list and I ended up deleting an access list from one of our core switches

No one seems to appreciate here just what is involved with IT and networking, or just how badly designed a lot of broadcast kit is. Nothing uses DNS it all just shouts across the network, nothing can have AV software or the latest patches. And yet when we try and improve things, we are seen to be just making it more awkward and the hark back to the days of a big flat network with a 16 bit subnet mask :cry:

Sorry rant over

They don't pay me to do it at 9.30PM at night though, that's just me being nice and not knocking everybody off the server in working hours.
