After seeing this gorgeous 166 in a very nice shade of blue

Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 V6 24V Sportronic 4dr Auto One owner 2007

I today contacted the seller with a possible view to buying a very late 166 and the colour really floats my boat ,never seen this colour in a 166 before but after the initial excitement and rush of blood to the head to buy the fact that the road tax is so expensive on these 2007 registered 166s is too much so sensibility won the day but boy what a looker.
Where the hell has this thing been until 2007? i thought i bought one of the last 166s in 2006 were there some 166s imported after they officially withdrawn in the uk?

Nice car, but can't see the heated seat switches and when did they do away the boot retainer rubber straps?
When you add up all the costs of owning a car, does an extra £200-ish per year actually tip the balance from affordable to not?

On the premise that the Singapore Slings never arrived until 2008 I guess that as the 166's never sold well in the first place then this lay in a dealer showroom un regd until 2007.

My 2005 TI doesnt have the rubber boot straps (does have heated seats tho)
..that's a lovely car.

It's sort of quaint what you Englanders consider expensive in terms of road tax.. ;)

V6s are cheap to buy for exactly this reason. That is a dirt cheap car - an 07 plate with reasonable mileage. So you save the capital cost and pay an extra £200 a year. That's (roughly) two tanks of petrol.

 :D So No Scottish genes in your pool RXE.;)
Capital costs....RU an accooontant....Anybody can use figures/statistics to argue anything..OK On paper a 30k car brand noo....BUTT considering the Singapore Slings....Brand noo sportronics like this one were only 13k brand no in 2008 so I don't follow your argument.

Having said that it wont pop up in any car valuation calculators (UK) that is as they only go to 2005 or at a push 2006 but these car were probably manufactured in 2004 anyway.

I did go against the flow and part wie 3.2k furra 2005 TI over a year ago and the valuation then for the car was aroon 2k.The RFL was when I bought it £475 a year but I made DVLA see sense and reduce it to a mair reasonable £270 or whatever. (NB HOWEVER that cannot be dun fur this baby)

Also 2 tanks of fuel...aroon 600 miles ..I'd only walk 5 hunner:cheese:

BUTT that's jist me ken err RXE.

:rant::rant::rant: Its no a 2007 car It's only regd 2007..i fink.

That was the norm for 166's to languish unwanted in dealer showrooms for long periods of time and hence the retro cassette player.:cheese:

Hedgin their bets and catering fur the mair marure and discerning owner.

OR

catering fur those with an inability or reluctance to change.

also if no sat nav fitted its an ideal plaice fur my auld 8 track.

..fuel is a bit cheaper alright, roughly the equivalent of £1.40/L at the moment.

The problem is the motortax makes it impossible to own the car.. just like the UK nobody here would buy an old, thirsty V6 with the intention of using it for a big commute, but the difference is when i get the bus to work i'm still paying €1700/year to have the car sitting on the driveway.

ideally you would imagine you could keep your nice V6 for the weekend, and keep an old 1.4 citroen for the slog to work, but the combined tax bill would be around €2100 per year, That means nobody can realistically run these cars, and they're being wiped out..

And that's why we dream of life in the UK with a garage full of old massers and alfas

Swings n roundabouts.
Second City Motor Company is round the corner from me.
They are really nice decent guys. I was looking at little fiat 500's for the g/f to buy. They have alot of Alfa's in as they specialise in them and the own has a very cool spider.

As soon as he saw my crappy 147 in the green he wanted to buy it from me. But I might pop down and have a look as I do love the interior of the 166 and the older ones are dirt cheap.

If I ever get a family (When she falls asleep and I get her) then a 166 is definetly on the cards...
